DTV Road Show Overview
One of the central grassroots marketing initiatives of the National Association of Broadcasters, the DTV Roadshow helps to increase consumer awareness of the February 17, 2009 transition to digital television (DTV) in targeted areas with high proportions of broadcast-only households.
NAB has two DTV Trekkers – moving trucks designed to resemble giant television sets – crisscrossing the country from November 2007 until transition day in 2009. NAB's traveling road show will promote the DTV transition and benefits of free digital broadcasting and antenna reception at 600 events in 200 markets nationwide. The road show will travel to widely-attended events – from state fairs and large festivals to sporting events, concerts, retail settings, and other events where we can reach thousands of people in person with DTV-related information.
Consumer Activities at DTV Roadshow
At the DTV Road Show, a professionally trained team of "DTV Answers Ambassadors" invites consumers into a 20 foot by 30 foot event area to experience a variety of displays and games designed to both entertain and educate. A 20 foot truck resembling a giant television set scrolls relevant messages about the digital transition. Nearby, a branded 10 x 20 tent houses all other consumer activities, including an interactive spinwheel game. Every consumer who spins the wheel wins free prizes such as a pen, post-it notes, hats, or water bottles to remind them to prepare for this important transition. Television kiosks display before/after views of broadcast signals in analog (the old method of transmitting TV signals) and digital (the new technology) to highlight benefits of the switch. Educational literature (available in English or Spanish) is provided to each consumer.
