CBS Outernet Teams Up With Partners To Deliver DTV Transition Message To Consumers On the Road, In the Skies, In the Produce Aisle and In the Waiting Room

December 2, 2008

To raise public awareness of the February 17, 2009, transition to all-digital television broadcasting, CBS Outernet is making a variety of public service announcements (PSAs) available to its out-of-home video network partners.

The spots, which include 15 and 30 second promos produced by the CBS Network, CNET and the National Association of Broadcasters, will begin airing this month on American Airlines, AutoNet TV, the CBS Outernet Grocery Network, Gas Station TV, and the Healium™ Network which collectively deliver close to 70 million out-of-home viewers each month.

"America's broadcasters are committed to ensuring that the DTV transition message reaches all affected viewers," said Jonathan Collegio, vice president for the DTV transition at NAB. "We are thrilled that CBS Outernet and its wide range of partners are helping us target tens of millions of consumers in thousands of high-traffic locations nationwide."

The spots, which are also running on the CBS Television Network and many of its television affiliates, include original messages delivered by cast members from hit CBS shows NUMB3RS and NCIS and editors from CNET.com. In addition, the Outernet partners will also run selected spots produced by NAB that inform consumers about how to upgrade to DTV and select the right antenna.

By law, all full-power television stations nationwide must begin broadcasting exclusively in a digital format by February 17, 2009. Most full-power stations in the country are already broadcasting in digital. Over-the-air television households risk losing reception unless they upgrade their analog sets to receive digital signals. NAB is leading a massive campaign valued at more than $1 billion to educate Americans about their available options and the benefits of digital TV.
