NAB Pledges Support for FCC Nationwide DTV Outreach Tour

August 18, 2008

WASHINGTON, DC — National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) President and CEO David K. Rehr and NAB Television Board Chairman Jim Yager issued the following statement today in support of the Federal Communications Commission's announcement that the agency is launching a national tour to television markets across the country to help consumers prepare for the February 17, 2009 transition to digital television (DTV).

"We applaud Chairman Martin and the FCC commissioners for their commitment to helping Americans make a smooth transition to digital television. The FCC DTV tour is an outstanding example of public service that will ensure more viewers are informed about the transition and get answers to questions they may have about how to upgrade to digital television.

Broadcasters nationwide are participating in a massive DTV consumer education campaign that is valued at more than $1 billion, and we look forward to working with the FCC on this important grassroots initiative. NAB will help to coordinate activities with stations nationwide to support the FCC tour, including analog shut-off tests, which have proven to be one of the most effective ways for stations to help viewers determine whether they are ready to receive digital television signals.

With six months left until the transition is completed, broadcasters will do everything possible to make sure Americans are prepared for the historic switch to free digital television and can enjoy all the benefits digital offers."
